On the 7th and 8th of March, the conference "Space SHeroes: When Women Challenge the Limits of Science and Technology" took place, with the participation of Ana Pires, INESCTEC researcher, astronaut analogue and scientist-astronaut candidate. This was an event organised by the Azores at Space Project, the result of collaboration between the Lagoa High School Astronomy, Geocaching and Multimedia Club, the Santana Astronomical Observatory - Azores (OASA) and the American Corner/University of the Azores.

Ana Pires emphasised the need for the Azores to step up investment in space and take advantage of all the potential it has in this area. And so, during this event, Bensaude participated, in collaboration with other entities, with the donation of a robotic telescope, through the ExoClock programme, as part of the ARIEL Mission (Atmospheric Remote-sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large-survey). This mission aims to investigate the atmospheres of exoplanets orbiting distant stars, answering fundamental questions about their formation, structure and evolution.

While ARIEL is equipped with a space telescope capable of detecting atoms and molecules in exoplanetary atmospheres, the ExoClock project stands out for allowing small and medium-sized telescopes to contribute significantly to this mission.

The Bensaude Group is proud to be part of this action, which allows the Azores to be present on a real space mission and where participants have the opportunity to continuously learn about the subject and be part of an interactive international community.
