Bensaude Energy at Wetlands Week
As part of Wetlands Week, an event promoted by the Praia da Vitória City Council from 27 January to 2 February, Bensaude Energy was present at the opening session of the seminar "Wetlands: Health and Well-being".

Throughout the event, which aimed to awaken people to the potential of the wetlands in Praia da Vitória, various activities took place, from interpretive walks to lectures, concluding with the seminar that established the link between these wetlands and public health and well-being.

There have been five centuries of relationships between the population of Praia da Vitória and these ecosystems with very particular characteristics. Paul da Pedreira is a case in point, classified since December 2012 as a Wetland of International Importance by the RAMSAR Convention.

In the case of Paul da Pedreira, Terparque "has endeavoured to make its contribution by supporting various initiatives to preserve and restore this ecosystem and by ensuring, to this day, permanent monitoring of the evolution of the different bird species, many of them rarities. Sixteen years of monitoring data and a total of one hundred and forty-two species observed during this bird monitoring project," said Marco Lopes, Terparque's Manager. Bensaude Energy also records the maintenance of the reference species for the study, o Borrelho-de-coleira-interrompida (Charadrius Alexandrinus), Rola do Mar (Arenaria Interpres) and Pilrito das Praias (Calidris alba).

This project is an example of collaboration between the Bensaude Group and the scientific community in order to preserve the natural conditions of the Azorean ecosystem, thus continuing with the clear objective of making a positive contribution to the sustainable growth of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, handing over an enriched heritage to future generations.
