The Bensaude Group and the University of the Azores have a long-standing partnership that has enabled many young people to achieve excellent professional goals. Recently, this union has once again proved fruitful.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, University of the Azores student João Arruda had the opportunity to join the Bensaude Group's Information Systems Department (DSI) team and develop an application during his curricular internship. The application is called Hub Source and was born out of a need from the Sourcing team at Bensaude Distribution, part of the Bensaude Group. The application is still in the development process and will make it possible to streamline the process of acquiring and managing live animals from producers.
This procedure involves continuously recording and monitoring the status of the animals over time, ensuring that the team can check the stock available at any time and meet the sales needs of its internal customers, such as CFA - Centros de Fabrico dos Açores (Azores Manufacturing Centres) and DPCAçores - Desmancha, Produção e Comercialização de Carne dos Açores, Lda.

In response to the need, a requirements survey was carried out at Bensaude Distribution and the start of the project coincided with the beginning of the curricular internship of the young student João Arruda, thus joining the DSI team, whose project involved Technical Coordination, Project Management, Technical Development and Consultancy.
From February to July this year, trainee João Arruda took part in the development of the application that will significantly improve the process of buying and selling animals.
For João Arruda, 25, it was a ‘very enriching’ experience. He emphasised the support he always had from his colleagues at DSI, his trainee supervisor Décio Miranda and his Director Paulo Gago da Câmara. He also emphasised that he ‘had a great time and experienced spectacular experiences in the team building in which he took part’.
He admits that he has ambitions to progress professionally, which is why, after completing his degree in Computer Science at the University of the Azores, he decided to study for a Master's degree in Business Economics. Returning to the Bensaude Group is a possibility.
The Bensaude Group is proud to support the professional development of young Azorean talent and believes that partnerships such as this are fundamental for continuous growth and innovation. The collaboration with the University of the Azores strengthens ties between the school community and the labour market, but also provides students with valuable opportunities to apply their knowledge to real projects, preparing them for future professional challenges.
