INSCO Insular de Hipermercados, S.A. obtains the renewal of the Environmental Certification
During 2016, INSCO, on Terceira Island, sent to recycling facility approximately 376 tons of cardboard, 41 tons of plastic packaging, 4 tons of metals, 34 tons of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) and 13 tons of wood.

Continente Modelo, MO, Worten, Sportzone, Wells, Bom Bocado and Terceira’s Logistics Warehouse and Logistics Center receive for the second time the renewal of the environmental certification of its Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001:2012 international standard, granted by the Portuguese Certification Association (APCER). This certification of all the units of Terceira Island has been in force since 2011 and with this renewal, INSCO, a company owned mainly by the Bensaude Group, maintains its position in the distribution sector in the Azores, as a pioneer of this environmental certification.

The environmental certification has increasingly become a parameter of analysis by consumers, who use it as a reference of the company's social and environmental responsibility. INSCO, by adhering to these instruments of environmental management, an important tool for sustainable development, demonstrates its responsible attitude in the Azores Islands, contributing in this way to a better quality of life in its surroundings, living up to the sustainability that is one of the core values of the Bensaude Group.

The certification of INSCO stores is nothing more than recognition of the efforts made in elaborating and implementing the Environmental Management System, in the specific training of its employees and in the improvement of equipment and infrastructures that allow high levels of environmental performance.
The company started on this path in 2007 with the certification of Continente Modelo, and Worten stores of Ponta Delgada and of the S. Miguel Logistics Warehouse and Manufacturing Centers. Currently, INSCO has 7 Continente Modelo, 4 Worten, 5 MO, 7 Wells, 4 Sportzone, 5 Bom Bocado, 1 Note, 2 Manufacturing Center, 2 Warehouses and 1 Meu Super, all certified according to ISO 14001: 2012.

During this time, the company has taken numerous actions aimed at environmental endeavors considered significant, namely the reduction of electricity, water and chemical products consumption. It strongly invested in reducing the production of undifferentiated waste, valuing the separation of the remaining ones and directing them to recycling and treatment.

The INSCO stores on Terceira Island in 2016 achieved the desired results, namely in the reduction of 1% in energy consumption, a reduction of 1% in water consumption and an 8% reduction in the production of undifferentiated waste. The excellent environmental performance of the stores, manufacturing center and logistic warehouse on this island allowed to separate and send for recycling approximately 376 tons of cardboard, 41 tons of plastic packaging, 4 tons of metals, 34 tons of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) and 13 tons of wood.

In 2016, all INSCO certified stores, manufacturing centers and warehouses in the Azores separated and sent for recycling approximately 1,045 tons of cardboard, 176 tons of plastic packaging, 16 tons of metal, 56 tons of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) and 45 tons of wood.
