Bensaude Hotels signs agreement under the UrBan Waste Project
A pioneer in environmental issues regarding the hotel and tourism industry in the Azores, Hotel Marina Atlântico, part of the Bensaude Hotels, signed an agreement on March 16th on the European project UrBan Waste, which aims to implement urban strategies for waste management in tourist cities.

Within these strategies, the fundamental points are to:
. Promote and structure a participatory stakeholder framework for policy development in waste management;
. Develop eco-innovative strategies for urban waste management.

The UrBan Waste Project involves key interested parties in waste prevention and management, generating value standards in the tourism sector, aiming to develop eco-innovative waste prevention as well as management strategies in cities with high tourism rates, so to reduce the production of municipal waste and to improve the management of municipal waste.

11 pilot cities and European regions, namely Copenhagen, Florence, Santander, Nice, Dubrovnik, Kavala, Syracuse, Nicosia, Tenerife, Lisbon and Ponta Delgada are involved in this project, which will be the models of implementation and demonstration of activities. These cities will also be involved in the participatory structure through the Mutual Learning and Mobilization Plan for waste prevention and management in tourist towns.

The project will run until 2019 and Hotel Marina Atlântico has committed to the following measures:

Measure 7: Replacement of disposable products in Hotels;
Measure No 14: Translation and dissemination of waste separation instructions in other languages
Hotel Marina Atlântico is environmentally certified according to the Standard NP EN ISO 14001 and registered in the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
