INSCO — Pioneers in environmental certification

The Continente Modelo, MO, Worten, Sport Zone, Wells and Bom Bocado stores, the manufacturing centre and the logistics warehouse (Entreposto Logístico) of Terceira island renewed, for the second time, the environmental certification of the Environmental Management System (EMS), according to the international standard ISO 14001:2012, issued by the Portuguese Certification Association (APCER).

This certification has been in force since 2011 and in this aspect INSCO is, for sure, a pioneer in the Azores, particularly in the distribution industry.

The company started this journey in 2007, with the certification of the logistics warehouse and the manufacturing centre, both in São Miguel. In the same year, the Continente Modelo and Worten outlets, in Ponta Delgada, were also certified.

Currently, all establishments owned by INSCO are certified in accordance with ISO 14001:2012.
The company also takes action in many other environmental aspects, reducing the consumption of water, electricity and chemical products, minimising the production of undifferentiated waste and promoting the separation and recycling of the remaining kinds of waste.
During 2016, the INSCO stores on the Terceira Island reached the desired results, reducing the consumption of electricity (1%), water (8%) and the amount of waste produced (8%).

The excellent environmental performance of the stores, manufacturing centre and logistics warehouse of this island resulted in the separation of:
  • 376 tons of paper/cardboard;
  • 41 tons of plastic;
  • 4 tons of metal;
  • 34 tons of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment);
  • 13 tons of wood.

In 2016, every store, manufacturing centre and logistics warehouse sent to recycling:
  • 1.045 tons of cardboard,
  • 176 tons of plastic;
  • 16 tons of metal;
  • 56 tons of WEEE;
  • 45 tons of wood.
